About Amar Singh
Born in the state of Uttar Pradesh (Aligarh), which he currently serves relentlessly, he is a man to reckon with. He took birth in the household of Late Shri Harish Chandra Singh, and Shrimati Shail Kumari Singh, carried out his college education, and got his law degree from St. Xavier’s, Kolkata. He is married to Shrimati Pankaja Kumari Singh, and has two daughters, Drishti, and Disha.
Among the many things that he has ventured into, his life has mainly been defined by the occupation of an industrialist, and the duty of a much-loved politician. . He is a Third Term Member of Upper House of Parliament. Generally a private man, he likes to read, listen to music, and watch movies in the little time that he gets for himself. Apart from that, his only leisure time activity is Golf.
Mr. Singh has held many other prestigious posts in his lifetime of offerings to the country, a few of them being the National General Secretary and National Spokesperson of the samajwadi party ,Director of the State Bank of India, Director of the Indian Airlines, and the Director of National Textiles Corporation.
His significant achievements have been during his tenure as the Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Development Council (2003-2007). During this time, he gained immense public support as UP topped in private sector investment in 2006-7. It was in the same glorious time period that sugar policy made by UPDC led to UP becoming the biggest sugar producing state, farmers getting maximum returns for their sugarcane, and Power policy drafted by UPDC ensured that the abysmal power situation is taken immediate care of. Because of him, many old & dead power projects were rejuvenated and the country’s biggest gas based power plant was initiated in Dadri.
Amar Singh, with his insightful vision, and perseverance, has stood in the face of insurmountable odds, and has emerged unblemished.
