SP stands in the way of Mamata’s rail corridor

Mamta Bannerjee Samajwadi Party General Secretary, Amar Singh who had supported Mamata Banerjee in the Singur agitation, on Friday warned the railway minister against acquiring land in eastern Uttar Pradesh for the corridor project, by saying a ‘bloodbath’ would be warranted.

Raising this issue against the railways move to acquire 10,000 hectares for the freight corridor project, Mr. Singh said Banerjee was right to oppose the land acquisition in West Bengal but this solution was unacceptable.

Amar Singh also pointed out that the Left should join the SP in holding off the land acquisition at Chandoli.

He also said that the land involved in Chandoli was much more than was the case in Singur. Also suggested by Singh was the Congress should ask their government at the Centre to stand against the acquisition rather than agitating against the move themselves.

“If land is acquired against the wishes of the people, farmers will resort to a blood bath,” warned an insightful Amar Singh.
